The traditional work model was top down (one way) and centralized. Someone, the Project Manager or the boss, was in charge of making decisions and determining what to do. Websites as we know them, causally, worked in the same way because they exhibited a vertical page where the user could “consume” the information that a webmaster had uploaded. These kind of webpages are still being used by companies and institutions.
But nowadays we are witnessing a change, both the work model and the way we “consume” Internet information. Firstly, more and more companies prefer to form multidisciplinary teams that contribute with their knowledge, cooperating with each other (teamwork). Having to work together on the same content, at the same time, requires constant sharing of data and information. In the other hand, the way we consume and build Internet content have changed: 2.0 concept means that users not only read the information, otherwise they create content (for example, Social Network Sites: are tools people use from the time they wake up in the morning until the time they go to bed). We don’t consider them anymore as a producer or a consumer; now we talk about prosumers.
Sometimes, at work, we require lots of immediate communication with colleagues or to answer specific questions. It can be done by email, but that is hard to do when there are lots of participants involved. Additionally, each time we have the same question (or other have the same doubt) it would require a new email. With new media platforms, we can resolve these issues quickly and share it with others. Also, it is efficient to make important decisions that, generally, need consensus across teams: meetings are often hard and tedious to schedule and colleagues are geographically separated. Many things need face-to-face meetings to be done, but others not.
Many large enterprises (not SMBs) are moving to the cloud to reduce cost and, also, to have the content available in different platforms and mobile devices.
Marshall McLuhan, Canadian philosopher, said “our Age of Anxiety is, in great part, the result of trying to do today’s jobs with yesterday’s tools”. At Senexx we couldn’t agree more with this statement and we offer innovative software for enterprises and companies, a Q&A collaborative platform that accelerate work cycles and allow sharing questions and doubts with other colleagues and experts.
